View details →Chloe-Anne is a historian on a mission to bring the past to life with her historical adventures around the globe. Through playful yet rigorously researched storytelling she sparks public curiosity and makes history feel alive, surprising and irresistibly relevant. She roams happily across every corner of the past (and the planet!), but her heart lies in the history of science: the discoveries, ideas and people who shaped how we understand the world.
Chloe-Anne is a 28-year-old, Oxford-based historian with a passion for bringing to light the joy, adventure and magic of the past.
Chloe-Anne studied an undergraduate Master’s degree in English Literature and History at the University of Edinburgh, before going on to study a postgraduate Master’s degree in History at the University of Bristol. Academically, her research focuses on the history of science and medicine, the history of ideas, and the history of emotions. In her public history work, and particularly on social media, Chloe-Anne’s focus is a lot broader — researching and telling the history of everything from the Rosetta Stone to supercars. Her aim is to inspire interest in history by showing that it’s so much more than just sitting in a dusty room with dusty books!
Chloe-Anne has collaborated with a variety of organisations on social media to highlight the best of history everywhere. Recently these collaborations have included the Natural History Museum, Oxford University, Shapero Rare Books and Salon Privé, among many others. She also enjoys working with fellow historians, content creators and experts from a wide array of disciplines, to bring history to life from new perspectives.
Chloe-Anne also recently starred in the first season of the BBC’s adventure reality show Destination X, in which she competed against 12 others to guess her location and win £100,000.
Areas of focusA note from Chloe-Anne
Growing up, I suffered from crippling anxiety which stopped me from taking up a lot of opportunities and doing a lot of things that I wanted to do. But when I was 15 years old I went to see an RSC production of Wendy and Peter Pan (an adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan created by Ella Hickson). I remember watching the play and seeing Wendy whining and crying, too afraid to do anything without Peter, and realised that that was me… I was Wendy. Then on the other hand, there was Tigerlily, this amazing, fearless warrior princess who was capable of anything (and had a bow and arrow, which was just cool) and I wanted to be her.
So from that day forwards I decided to live by the motto ‘Be more Tigerlily than Wendy’, which essentially means: be brave, trust yourself, and give it a go. From then on I only allowed myself to answer to opportunities as Tigerlily would, not like Wendy, and slowly I found myself beating the anxiety and becoming the person that I’d always wanted to be. Of course, I’ll never quite get there — that’s the joy of Tigerlily; she lives in my imagination and so she’ll always be just out of reach, always something to aim for — but I’m an awful lot closer than I was at 15.
I think 15-year-old me might faint if she saw what my day-to-day looks like now (let alone if she knew I’d jumped out of a plane!). So that’s where ‘Be more Tigerlily than Wendy’ comes from and what it means, and also why I call myself ‘Tigerlily History’. I hope that if you also find yourself suffering from anxiety, Tigerlily might be able to help you too…

Destination X is a BBC adventure reality series, hosted by Rob Brydon, in which 13 contestants boarded a bus with blacked out windows, somewhere in Europe, and had to complete challenges to help them guess their location whilst it drove all over the continent. Chloe-Anne was hoping her historical knowledge of Europe might help her to solve puzzles and pick up on clues the others missed, but did she succeed? Watch the series to find out!

This cookie policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are — and aren’t — used on tigerlilyhistory.com (the “site”).
Cookies are small text files that a website can store on your device to remember information about your visit. “Similar technologies” includes things like local storage that work in comparable ways.
No. tigerlilyhistory.com does not set any cookies of its own, and it does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The site is a simple, single-page website: it does not store information on your device and does not track your browsing.
While the site itself sets no cookies, a few things are worth knowing:
Because the site sets no non-essential cookies, a cookie consent banner is not required. If I add features in future that do use such cookies (for example website analytics or embedded videos), I will update this policy and add a consent banner where the law requires one.
